Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) is not fit for purpose and an unnecessary stealth tax on the businesses of our lovely city. It's had 5 years to prove itself as a great investment but it has failed demonstrate this, it’s nothing more than another tax collected by the Council.

10 reasons to vote NO to Gloucester BID
1. BID is an extra tax on hard working businesses we just don’t need.
2. The BID is reducing financial demands on the Council at the expense of us businesses.
3. They promised BID would be a great investment, but it’s not, what return on investment on your money paid have you seen? Do you really want to be made to pay for another 5 years?
4. Despite worst ever trading conditions during covid times, by continuing to force levy collection the BID has shown no compassion for all hard hit businesses. Despite hundreds of thousands of pounds sat in their bank account unspent, the BID didn’t even reduce the levy but other BIDs have!
5. There are businesses that benefit from BID, but don’t pay towards it, is that fair?
6. Lack of transparency, particularly around Board meeting decision making and accounts / expenditure.
7. High administration / management / operating costs, which businesses were clearly lied to about in the 2017 plan voted on. They said operating costs would be c£20,000 / year, but in fact these costs have been in the region £80,000+ a year!
8. The Councils have too much block voting power in the ballot, did you know that every council building and car park gets a vote? The City Council have too much a vested interest in ensuring BID gets in and have already decided to vote YES against businesses.
9. For this ballot did you know that the BID boundary has been changed by the BID, and they admit they can do this to help them win a ballot. This is unfair voting map manipulation.
10. Do you like how the BID is blackmailing you into voting YES? Gloucester will not lose it’s business reputation and there are alternatives to having a BID, remember that most towns and Cities in the UK do not have a BID.
As levy payers we deserve better whilst Gloucester City Council are neglecting their responsibilities and laughing all the way to the bank.
We don’t want another 5 years of this extortion.
